Dear BMS Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and BMS Students:
From Tuesday, June 13th through Tuesday, June 20th, Belleville Middle School will be piloting the new Block Schedule for the 23-24 academic year. Our hope next week is to not only have the students and faculty become familiar with the new schedule but also to learn to improve the transition for September. Below are some important pieces of information to make sure that next week is a success. The students start and end time does not change. On “A” Days, students will go to their classes Periods 1-4. On “B” Days, students will go to Periods 5-8. The Homeroom period has been incorporated into the new schedule, therefore homeroom will be eliminated next week. Block 3 and 7 have a lunch time built into them. 7th Grade will follow the 3A schedule and eat lunch first. 8th Grade will follow the 3B schedule and eat lunch second. Students walking to the Annex for their elective classes will exit Door #1, walk across the parking lot and down into the Annex. There will be security guards and staff in the parking lot between buildings to make sure there is a smooth transition for students. Physical Education classes will have the opportunity to walk to Clearman Field for class. Students will walk with the PE Staff from the middle school to Clearman Field on Wednesday and Thursday. During the students’ scheduled lunch period (4, 5, or 6), there will be separate workshops, presentations, and assessments given since lunch is built into the schedule. Students will have workshops from the Wellness Department, Guidance Department, and the Belleville Public Library. Students will also be asked to complete an end of year Diagnostic in the Exact Path Program to assess their ELA progress since September. Students going to the Belleville Public Library presentation will be walking on Washington Ave. to the library. Attached is a copy of the MS Bell Schedule that will be followed next week. Students, please make sure that you have a copy of the times so that you are aware of when the movement is. The faculty and staff of Belleville Middle School have been working very diligently all year on making this transition. We look forward to the trial run next week and learning to make the education for Middle School students better for the 23-24 academic year.
Thank you,
Joseph Lepo Director of Secondary Education Belleville Public Schools
