Ms. Nicole Shanklin

Director of Curriculum and Instruction K-6

Mrs. Nicole Shanklin currently serves as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction (K-6) for the 2024-2025 school year. She began working for the Belleville Public School District in the fall of 2018, and this is her tenth year as an administrator overall. Her previous leadership roles include serving in various capacities as Director/Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction (K-12); Principal; and ESL Coordinator. She was also part of the initial preschool expansion team in Belleville. 

Prior to her administrative roles, Mrs. Shanklin was a High School English Language Arts teacher. She found joy in teaching a diverse array of classes, ranging from tenth-grade inclusion to twelfth-grade Advanced Placement Literature and Composition (among many others!). Mrs. Shanklin's love for every class she taught underscores her dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for students of all levels.

Prior to teaching, Mrs. Shanklin attended The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education. While teaching, she pursued and obtained her Master of Arts in English from TCNJ and then her Master of Education in Educational Leadership from William Paterson University. 

Most recently, in 2021, Mrs. Shanklin completed her Certificate in Early Education Leadership (CEEL) from Harvard Graduate School of Education. In her quest for academic advancement and leadership excellence, Mrs. Shanklin is currently working towards her Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from Centenary University.

From her previous teaching and administrative experiences, Mrs. Shanklin brings a wealth of knowledge in various programs. She looks forward to continuing to cultivate a love of learning with the faculty and staff, parents, students, and Belleville community as a whole. Mrs. Shanklin strongly believes in the importance of curriculum and instruction, and she finds literacy to be the backbone for all subjects, including math and science. Mrs. Shanklin is continuously looking for ways to improve student growth and learning. Her main philosophy in life is to motivate and inspire others through modeling and leading by example.

Mrs. Shanklin currently resides in Nutley with her husband, two children, and dog. When she is not immersed in a good book or curriculum article, she loves to be outside hiking or going on adventures with her children.
