Mr. Matthew Sullivan

Director of District Safety and Security

Mr. Sullivan was born and raised in Toms River, New Jersey, where he graduated from Toms River East High School. Before obtaining his BA, Mr. Sullivan worked for two years in the private sector at a school for profoundly disabled students. It was there he directed his career path toward education. In 2010, Mr. Sullivan graduated from Kean University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and, because of his time in special education, also obtained his Teacher of Students with Disabilities certification. In 2011, after realizing he wanted to make more of an impact on his students, Mr. Sullivan returned to school and obtained a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction. With a continued passion for making a change, Mr. Sullivan earned a Master’s in Educational Leadership.

In 2010, Mr. Sullivan joined the Belleville family and began teaching at Belleville High School as a teacher and a coach for various sports. To fulfill his first leadership role, Mr. Sullivan became the supervisor of a summer school program for the Essex County Regional Educational Services Commission during the summer months of 2015. That following September, Mr. Sullivan became the Belleville Universal Campus School supervisor and served as an assistant principal at Belleville High School for five years. In 2020, Mr. Sullivan excitedly joined Belleville School 10 as principal until he transitioned into the Director of District Safety and Security role in 2023.
